Huskuru Miskiij, also known as the Old Friday Mosque, is the oldest mosque in the Maldives and the predecessor of the Grand Friday Mosque. The mosque, which is made almost entirely out of carved coral stone, was completed in 1658 after two years of construction while Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar held the throne. Visitors wishing to see the inside of the mosque are supposed to get permission from an official of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs. However, most of the staff are officials of the ministry and, if the tourists are respectful and well dressed, they will usually give you permission to enter the mosque on the spot. Thousands of worshippers take part in prayers on every Friday afternoon at the Huskuru Miskiij.
