Abu Dhabi is not just a desert city it is a miracle of modern technology and human ingenuity. Defying expectations the city is actually a vibrant place full of verdant parks and gardens, glitzy shopping malls and modern buildings. While strict and conservative, especially when compared to nearby Dubai, the city has plenty of attractions that can make for a fun and exciting holiday. Travellers who want to experience Arab culture will find it the ideal vacation spot.
Jebel Hafeet (also sometimes called Jabel, Jabal and even Jebal) is a mountain located outside of Al Ain (which is in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi). It is one of the best known attractions in the area and is highly popular with tourists. While the mountain actually lies at the border between the United Arab Emirates and Oman, it is primarily situated in the UAE. Rising to well over 1,200 metres one can catch breath-taking panoramic views of the city from the top. Although some mistakenly claim that it is the tallest mountain in the UAE that distinction actually belongs to Jabal Yibir. An extensive network of caves runs through Jebel Hafeet, although it is not advisable to simply go wandering through them. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna including bats, foxes and snakes.
At the mountain’s foothills one will find the Green Mubazarrah, where there is a lake formed by the confluence of many small hot water springs. There are also a number of Jacuzzis and swimming pools spread across Green Mubazarrah. To get to the mountain peak one has go up the three-laned Jebel Hafeet Mountain Road, which is nearly twelve kilometres long and has been called one of the world’s greatest driving roads.
One thing that makes Abu Dhabi an excellent holiday destination is the presence of great infrastructure. The roads are well made, one can find terrific restaurants everywhere and good Abu Dhabi resorts are easy to find. Tourists on the lookout for Abu Dhabi beach hotels can try the Desert Islands Resort & Spa by Anantara. Set on Sir Bani Yas Island the hotel helps introduce guests to the best the Emirate has to offer.
