Jumhooree Maidan is also known as the Independence Square in Male. The park was established in the year 1989. The Jumharoo Maiden, Republic Square of Maldives is beautifully built with green grass and lush plantation, along the northern waterfront. On the Eastern end of the square stands the official flag post on which the largest permanent flag in the country is hoisted. Towards its west of the Republic Square of Maldives, lies the commercial buildings; to its south lie the Islamic center and the headquarters of the National Security Service (NSS). On the eastern side, one can see the new Headquarters of the Police. On the northern side of the waterfront, where it is situated, one can enjoy the seaside view.
