The Kaeng Krachan National Park is Thailand’s largest national park. Established in 1981, the park spans almost 3,000 square kilometres and parts of it lie across the Phetchaburi province as well. This national park is home to deer, tigers, bears and even elephants, so a good camera is a must when visiting here. Even if the animals happen to be shy there are plenty of things to photograph. There are numerous hiking trails, although tourists should consult the officials at the visitor centre first. The Kaeng Krachan dam near the eastern border creates a large lake which is ideal for a little relaxation and one can even take a boat ride around the lake. In addition to this, the national park also contains many interesting caves, waterfalls and hot springs. Opening hours are between 8.30 am and 4.30 pm and the best months to visit are between November and April. It is best for travellers intending on visiting here, to rent out a car.
