Khao Rang was once a popular fitness park in Phuket, Thailand, but now it is mostly sought after for the breathtaking view that it has to offer. Many travellers climb up to Khao Rang to enjoy the bird’s eye view of the south of Phuket Island. The best time to climb the mountain is when it is shady and that is usually in the late evening or early morning. There are several roads that lead to Khao Rang; one of the streets are Soi Wachira which is close to the Wachira hospital. When you take this road it goes to the Wat Khao Rang Temple which one can always visit. There is a very large sitting Buddha in the temple and some beautiful Buddhist structures and paintings. There is another route that also leads to this site; Hongyok Road, but it is a road with many twists and turns. Be sure to have a road map if you want to take this route. One can always go down Soi Chimbi Road instead of Hongyok for it will easily get you to the top of the hill.
From Soi Chimbi Road you can explore two small temples. The Chinese temple is close to a massive Chinese cemetery, the full view of which can be seen from the top of the hill. Chinese cemeteries are colourful and filled with decorations. The temple is quite large but if you are in a mood to explore you should take a walk to the back of the cemetery. There is a tiny staircase at the back which will take you to a temple that looks much like a monastery. It is called Wat Kao Rang Nok where there are wooden chambers, statues of monks and Buddhist imagery.
There are some great restaurants that overlook the Phuket town. Reserving a table at one of these dining venues is another way to enjoy the view from the top of the hill. Travelling up to Khao Rang Hill viewpoint is definitely on the list of Phuket things to do. It is a great way to explore the surrounding area and also indulge in some trekking. While in the island consider staying at a sports hotel Phuket has to offer such as Thanyapura which offers a wide range of modern facilities and services that help make for a memorable stay.
