Also known as the Kintamani volcano, the Mount Batur is a major tourist attraction in the central highlands of Bali.
Mount Batur
Locally named Gunung Batur, this is an active volcanic mountain that has been in existence since almost 30,000 years ago. The latest volcanic eruption was in the year 2000 and since then, there have been no other eruptions. There are a lot of villages that have settled below the hills over the years, and the 4 main villages are Songan, Kedisan, Toya Bungkah and Trunyan. Agriculture is their main source of income, but now, tourism is also following closely in providing a source of income to the residents as most Ubud Bali resorts around the area recommend visitors to visit the mountains.

When to go
The mountain is loved by trekkers and hikers, and if you are staying at a place like Alila Ubud, ask your helpdesk for directions and set off on a day of adventurous trekking and be rewarded with amazing views at the top. Some trekkers also spend the night by the lake at the bottom before making their way up in time to watch the sunrise.
