Location
Located in Kiribathkumbura, Kandy in an open space alongside the A1 highway, right opposite the railway crossing of upcountry trains and the Colombo line. This is a different kind of an attraction visitors staying in any hotel in Kandy such as the luxury brands like Kings Pavilion Kandy may visit.
Opening hours
This is one those museums that are open for public viewing twenty-four hours a day and seven days a week. Visitors are no required to pay entrance fees. The museum is maintained by the Road Development Authority.
Collection
The museum houses a collection of early construction equipment about 175 years old including tar boilers, steam road rollers, coal scales, stone road rollers, old road signs and a replica of the Bogoda Wooden Bridge. There is also a bull roller that was run on elephant power in the early 19th century.
Highways today
It is quite important to note that there was a vast improvement of highways from 1927 to 1956. And today there are about 11,600 classified roads, managed by the Road Development Authority and their respective provincial councils.
