How to Get There
The Turtle conservatory is situated on No.13 A Galle Road, Mahapelena, Kosgoda, which can be easily reached from many a surrounding hotel in Bentota including the likes of Shingawa Beach with minimal hassle.
Things to See
Upon arriving, visitors can observe newly hatched baby turtles kept in tanks which are kept there to increase their chances of survival by building up their strength. Other things to see include a secure plot of land where turtle eggs have been reburied as well as several other tanks which house injured fully grown turtles.
Things to Do
After taking a tour of the facility, visitors can take part in releasing 4-day old turtles to sea at an additional fee. The activity take part towards the latter part of the evening so if interested planning your visit to coincide with the release is well recommended.
Useful Information
The entrance ticket is LKR.500 and the hatchery is open till 5.00 p.m., but it would be prudent to call ahead to make sure it is open to the public on national holidays and the likes.
