Visiting Rub Al Khali, also known as the Empty Quarter, will allow tourists the opportunity to experience the Arabian dream. A landscape of sand dunes that gently rise and fall into the distance will evoke an unparalleled Arabian ambiance. Many of the beautiful Liwa desert resort and hotel options nearby such as the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara provide the ideal accommodation to complement it. Guests can take ample advantage of this location and enjoy the enchanting landscapes and endless dunes, opt for a camel ride, or immerse themselves in the local culture. For those who wish to venture outside the Empty Quarter, attractions are aplenty in the capital of the UAE and the Emirates National Auto Museum is one such tourist destination.
For motor-enthusiasts, a Car Museum is a wonderful opportunity to absorb more knowledge, see replicas or preserved models of famous cars and sometimes, to meet like minded people. The Liwa Car Museum is no different and is an ideal place to visit if you are a car fanatic exploring the area.
The Emirates National Auto Museum is located South of Abu Dhabi, around forty five kilometers from the city center, and boasts of a stunning array of automotive elegance. Impossible to miss with its pyramid shaped structure; the Auto Museum can be visited around US$14. While the Museum houses and displays over two hundred vehicles, these cars belong to His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan who is also known as the Rainbow Sheikh, following his decision to purchase seven Mercedes in 1983 and painting them with the colours of the rainbow.
Open from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm daily, some of the vehicles in the collection were even featured on Top Gear, the famous car show that airs on BBC, indicating the unique nature of the collection. This collection displays an array of cars from American classic cars, such as a steam powered Mercedes from the 19th century, to prototypes thereby making the Museum a truly intriguing visit.
