Singapore may be known as a modern and cosmopolitan city, but it’s also a garden city, rooted in nature with its green spaces, parks, gardens and some amazing flowering plants too.
Bougainvillaea
The picturesque bougainvillaea can be spotted throughout the country and the great thing is, it blooms the whole year through. You get different varieties of bougainvillaea which are known for their diverse colours as well. A great place to see them is Telok Blangah Hill Park, close to hotels in Singapore city centre.
Vanda Miss Joaquim
This hybrid orchid is in fact, the nation’s national flower; Vanda Miss Joaquim is known for its lovely colours including bright pinkish-purple and orange at its centre. To catch sight of this beautiful bloom head to the National Orchid Garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, easy to get to from Grand Park City Hall.
Peacock Flower
The peacock flower offers a colourful display that can be witnessed all year round especially when there’s bright sun. When in full bloom, you can see its fiery scarlet centre with the petals gradually changing colour from orange to yellow; it’s little wonder that such a vibrant display attracts bees and butterflies too.
Trumpet Tree
Somewhat like cherry blossoms, the blossoming trumpet trees offer a stunning sight with the trumpet-shaped pink flowers making for great photos too. The trees can reach heights of over 30 metres and the best time to see these gorgeous flowers in bloom is from September to November and March to May.
