Overview
The Malé Atoll is a collective reference to its two separate atolls called the North Malé Atoll and the South Malé Atoll. They form the Malé Atoll together with Kaashidhoo Island and Gaafaru, which are stand-alone island-like atolls.
North Malé Atoll
Malé, the island capital, is located on the southern edge of this picturesque atoll. It also has one of the highest recorded population densities in the world. The administrative capital of the North Malé Atoll is called Thulusdhoo. There are only seven inhabited islands in this atoll if you don’t consider the airport. With more than 40 uninhabited islands, this atoll offers more than it meets the eye.
South Malé Atoll
With only three inhabited islands, the South Malé Atoll offers a calming vibe than its bustling neighbour. It consists of thirty spectacular islands, from which 17 are dedicated to eco-friendly resorts such as Saii Lagoon Maldives.
