One of the most sought after tourist destinations in Chennai, the MGR Film City is loved by Tamil cinema fans of all ages. Iconic movies have been made on these sets and walking into it is every fan’s dream come true.
History
Originally built to attract both filmmakers and tourists, this film city didn’t see the success it had planned on having. The Mughal and Japanese sets are the most popular ones and movies like Hey Ram, Mudhalvan and Avvai Shanmugi were shot within this film city. After a brief success, the film city stopped having business and incurred a huge loss.
Location
Located in Taramani, the film city is close to many hotspots in the city now and is therefore a popular destination for both locals and visitors. A lot of 5 star hotels in Chennai can be found on this IT corridor too, like the Tuurya Hotels & Resorts.
Developments
In 2002, the film city was taken over by TIDCO, who then made the area a knowledge park. Spreading over a massive 70 acres, this place is now a hub for most directors and actors and on a normal day around the film city, you can spot a few of your favourite actors too.
