Muleeaage Palace in Male, Maldives is a clear depiction of old school Colonial style charm, mixed with Maldivian heritage and history. Built in 1919, the colonial style bungalow was a gift from the then ruler of Maldives, Sultan Muhammed Shamsuddeen III to his son Hassan Izzuddin.
Travelers to Maldives would obviously be on the look out for a Maldives Resort that is awe inspiring in its beauty and luxuriously comfortable in its appointment. Of the many wonderful such options available on the many islands belonging to the Maldives, Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa Maldives is noteworthy due to its many pleasing facilities and wonderful amenities built especially for the ease and comfort of International travelers.
Situated on the capital island of Male, the Muleeaage Palace has seen the changes in political power in the islands and has been an active participant in all regimes. Built on the ancestral home of the Sultan, the Palace did not prove to be a propitious choice for his son Sultan Hassan. Following his consequent banishment, Muleeaagee fellinto disuse until it was made the Ministry of Home Affairs during the Second World War. Thereafter Maldives abolished its monarchy and Muleeaagee Palace was set to be the President’s Palace, but decision too failed and later on went on to become the Prime Minister’s Office – as which it remains todate.
Despite being a part of four Presidencies and 2 rulers, Muleeaagee Palace was never the Royal Palace – which was situated a stones throw away and which is now the National Museum of Maldives and Sultan’s Park.
However its styling simplicity, beautiful surrounding and comfortable appointment, made Muleeaagee a point of interest and therefore an important part of Maldives’ history since its establishment. The Palace has had the honour of receiving Queen Elizabeth II and Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Ghandi as its guests during its history.
