The Noonday Gun is on the waterfront in Causeway Bay and is a famous tourist spot as it has both the mystery of the past and the looks that can turn curious eyes towards it.
History
Started by the British Royal Navy, the Noonday Gun salute was reserved only for naval officers leaving port, but on a fine day at noon, a civilian used it to bid farewell to his boss, and thus, as a punishment, this gun was fired every day at noon and is followed till date. The gun is fired by a guard from Jardine Matheson, as the civilian who stepped over his boundary was none other than an employee of Jardine Matheson back then. The firm owns the Noonday Gun now and at noon, the gunshot can be heard for miles around the waterfront.
