Sri Lanka is a nation with a uniquely captivating history, and the island’s heritage is worn on her sleeve since a drive through Colombo will result in the discovery of many colonial buildings.
Background
The history of the Old City Hall is fairly obscure, but it is believed to have been built sometime around 1865 during the British colonial days. It has a fairly haunting exterior, mainly due to the green windows, and an even more haunting interior, that is still quite captivating.
Inside the Building
Upon entrance you’re bound to notice a few vintage fire-trucks lying in a state of disrepair, these were gifts from the Japanese. If you wish to see all of what the building has to offer, you should head upstairs. Paying the caretaker a tip of Rs.100 will do the trick.
The Dummy Council
This is where things might get a little creepy. Once you reach the upstairs you will see the ministers of the time represented by life-sized dolls, seated around a table. Supposedly to replicate an iconic picture that was taken at a particular meeting. You can also discover some vintage paintings and various other artefacts.
Location
The Old City Hall is located near the Pettah Market and is known to any transportation provider. If you plan to rent a car in Sri Lanka, there are many places to do so, such as Car Booking Sri Lanka, and you can find the location on GPS or even Google Maps.
