Thailand’s island of Koh Samui is known for having a number of fascinating and unusual attractions. In fact, one seldom leaves the island without having enjoyed some fun memories of interesting landmarks. The Overlap Stone is an odd attraction and a ‘must visit’ for fans of the weird and offbeat. Located in Lamai, the Overlap Stone is a natural, top heavy rock formation balanced on a platform also made out of rock. The iconic spot is a popular place to take photographs and tourists planning on visiting the site should not forget to bring their cameras along.
The rock is perched on a cliff and offers excellent vistas. The journey to the rock is as interesting as the rock itself. Surrounded by a lush forest, the path is quite rugged, although skilled riders may be able to go nearly all the way by scooter. After traversing forest paths, one must cross a bridge to reach the Overlap Stone. Before taking photographs one can stop to take in the stunning panoramic views offered at the platform.
The island of Koh Samui is situated about eighty kilometres off the coast of Southern Thailand. Despite having terrific beaches and excellent infrastructure, it is often overlooked as a holiday destination, with many people opting to go to Phuket or Bangkok – Thailand’s two major vacation spots. This means that, even at the height of the tourist season, Koh Samui is not as crowded as Thailand’s other tourist hotspots, which makes this little southern island the perfect holiday destination for those who want to escape the noise and the crowds.
The island has plenty of good restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Public transport is limited and it is best to rent a bike or bicycle to travel around. When looking for a good hotel in Samui, the Anantara Lawana Resort & Spa Koh Samui is one of the first places to come to mind. The Koh Samui resort is situated on Chaweng Beach, the most developed beach on the island, and is surrounded by tropical palm trees. The hotel has the facilities for a variety of activities including golf, kayaking, scuba diving, snorkelling and fishing, and is a wonderful place to stay.
