A little bit of history
Although there aren’t any pieces of evidence that show proper timelines, it is believed that King Kashyapa while constructing the Sigiriya, moved all the monks who already occupied the Sigiriya rock to Pidurangala by constructing a monastery here. Today no monks live here but the ancient rock still houses evidence of a religious establishment being built here.
The climb
Those who wish to reach the summit will have to take a strenuous climb which is a bit more challenging than climbing Sigiriya. Though it is challenging, the climb offers scenic vistas and the route to the summit is extremely beautiful. It is recommended that you should climb the rock during early morning and evening hours since it can be very hot and humid during day time.
The view
Once you reach the top you will be greeted by an awe-inspiring view of the magnificent lion rock -Sigiriya and the summit also offers countless opportunities for creative photography.
Things to remember
If you have decided to take on the rock make sure that you wear comfortable and light clothing during your trek. Suncream, a hat and shades might also come in handy and don’t forget your cameras. You will also need a good pair of shoes that is suitable for walking on rugged terrain.
