Sri Lanka is an island of many wonders, but one that is overlooked much too often is the massive Rose Quartz Mountain Range in Jathika Namal Uyana.
Quartz
This mineral is commonly used in jewellery, and was even recognised by the ancient Greeks for their unique properties. During these times however, quartz was believed to be super-cooled ice. It is in reality however, a mineral that consists of silicon and oxygen.
Rose Quartz

Although quartz is quite commonly found, the rose variety is a little harder to come by. This is why finding an entire mountain range of Rose Quartz is a little remarkable.
An Ironwood Forest
Incredibly, this mountain range is situated within a lush Ironwood Forest, which also happens to be the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka. This makes it a truly attractive place to visit, especially if you’re vacationing at a nearby Kandalama hotel in Dambulla with many examples such as Amaya Signature.
The Summit
Reaching the top of this mountain is bound to be extremely rewarding, because the views for one thing are absolutely spectacular. There’s also a Buddha statue situated on the mountain, since this area is also considered a place of worship.
