The Monument
Selamat Datang Monument towers above a city pool from above 30 metres, and on the top of it, one can see two statues of a man and woman, waving at the tourists around – this symbolises the openness of the nation. The monument’s name “Selamat Datang” actually translates to “welcome” from the native language.
Getting There
This monument is situated in Central Jakarta City, in Menteng Sub-district. So, for those who are travelling from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, it would only take around 26-30 minutes by taxi via Jakarta Inner Ring Road.
History
Many tourists come here to discover the history behind the monument. It was built in 1962 and the purpose of its construction was to welcome the foreign athletes who were arriving in the country to participate in Asian Games IV.
