United Arab Emirates is one of the popular destinations in Arabia among tourists. In the UAE, Abu Dhabi takes a special place in terms of attractions. 5 star hotels in Abu Dhabi welcome countless numbers of tourists from across the world annually. Many tourists come here with the intention of visiting the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, which is the third largest mosque in the world which leaves all its visitors in awe. This regal structure is visible from the bridge adjoining the island of Abu Dhabi to the mainland. As tourists, a visit to this great iconic monument is a must do and hotels such as Eastern Mangroves Hotel & Spa by Anantara take special care to incorporate this into tailored made excursion plans.
This 82 domed masterpiece can house around 40000 worshippers and is held together proudly by almost 1000 columns. The mosque also has the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet and the chandeliers here are 24 carats gold gilded. The main prayer hall’s eye-catching masterpiece is one of the largest chandeliers in the world – a 10-meter diameter and 15 meters height 12-ton weighing grand chandelier. Over 1000 tonnes of marble has been used to bring this masterpiece to life. Adding to the beauty of the mosque are the reflective pools surrounding it. A unique lighting system turns the gold and white colours shining in the sun to that which reflects the phases of a moon.
Visitors are welcome into the mosque except during prayer times. There is also an hour long free guided tour to explain the principles of Islam as well as points to some of the highlights of the grand interior. The first ceremony held at the mosque was the burial of its namesake – Sheikh Zhayed. Special care to be taken with attire and behaviour while within the premises.
