Located at south Batai Town in Wanyuan City of Sichuan Province, the Batai Mountain scenic area is the site of this scenic cliff which had been the subject of many art works over the years. A majestic and lofty mountain, the drop height between the peak and the valley is 1500 to 1700 meters creating a spectacular sight. What’s unique about these cliffs are the 36 limestone hills that are found at the back of the mountain which are referred to as Chessboard Hills for their uncanny resemblance to chessmen. If you make it here in early summer, one can witness the azaleas in full bloom, covering an area of more than 100 mu. The melange of the lovely pink and the jade green of the bamboo create an absolutely enchanting sight for this is also the largest bamboo forest of Sichuan, covering an area of more than 40 thousand mu.
