The Spiral Mosque at Souq Waqif, in downtown Doha, has recently become one of Doha’s most famous landmarks, after being completed only recently. The mosque, that is part of the Kassem Darwish Fakhrroo Islamic Centre is located in Souq Waqif and is said to be a replica of the Great Mosque of Al-Mutawwakil in Samarra in Iraq. The mosque is said to be quite untraditional in the way it’s made, as usual traditional mosques are built with coral rock, wood and mud, whereas the Spiral mosque is made of brick and mortar. . The mosque which is also part of the Qatar Islamic Cultural Center was constructed to explain the faith of Islam to non Muslims and those keen on understanding the roots of Islam. The center is open from 7:30 am to 10 pm, where tour visits can be arranged.
