The original modern art collection that was owned by Dr Bernhard Sprengel is housed in these premises – hence its name. Dr Bernhard Sprengel’s collection includes French Modern Art and German Expressionism. During the latter part of the 20th century and also during the 21st century the collection here has expended to accommodate the important periods of contemporary art. In 1994 the Sprengel Museum in Hannover was enhanced with a Department of Photography and Media.
