Listed as one of the ’50 Places to See’ by the National Geographic Magazine, Star Ferry Pier in Central, Hong Kong is a major tourist attraction. Star Ferry Pier is a common name used for four successive generations of piers in Central, Hong Kong.
Of the four generations of piers, the fourth generation Pier is the only one which provides Star Ferry service in Central. It is also known as the Central Ferry Piers. Located on the stunning Victoria Habour, it has been built on reclaimed land directly opposite the former piers. Situated on prime waterfront property, the pier has been developed into a place of public entertainment. To give it a touch of historical heritage the pier has been designed to resemble the Second Generation Edwardian Pier. Featuring an Edwardian facade it contains a terminal of 600m2 and features a clock-tower and five electronically operated bells similar to those of the former pier, an opened air deck with natural lighting including skylights. While the two bottom floors serve as boarding and waiting rooms, the top floors are used as a public viewing deck, restaurant and cafe. While the Pier No. 7 will remain the only one serving Star Ferry Central, No. 8 Pier will soon be converted to house the Hong Kong Maritime Museum. These piers are also one of the most photographed piers in the world, and are thus visited by many tourists and locals alike.
