1) The Mudaliyar
Mudaliyar Don Arthur de Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena was of a noble and wealthy family. He and his brother both pursued their education in Great Britain. Arthur, upon seeing the mansion of the Maharaja of Raman, was keen to build his own in Sri Lanka. He then summoned an architect from the Kalutara district to begin work.

Spanning a space of one acre on a land that was forty-two acres the Mudaliyar’s mansion was built. It consists of 99 doors and 34 windows made with teak wood imported all the way from Burma. The mansion boasts 14 rooms as well as a dance and dining hall on two floors. If you’re looking for Kalutara hotels for accommodation while you check out this castle, you’ll find plenty of great options around, like the Mermaid Hotel & Club for example.
3) The Wedding
The Mudaliyar and Clarice Maud Sooriya Bandara held a wedding so full of grandeur that it was attended by the Prince and Princess of Wales. Four white horses drew the carriage for the bridal couple and was an honour bestowed only to one other Sri Lankan.
4) Prestige
The Mudaliyar was a loyal ally of the English government and aided them in all their pursuits. For his services, he was bestowed the title of “Padikara Muhandiram”.
