About the owner
Richmond Castle was created and owned by the famous philanthropist, Padikara Muhandiram Arthur Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena. He was a wealthy nobleman who garnered the respect of the multitudes.
Interesting facts
Padikara Muhandiram Arthur Silva Wijesinghe Siriwardena and his brother received their education in England, as they were of noble birth and possessed great riches. During his time abroad he befriended Maharaja of Raman. Upon visiting his castle, Arthur decided to create a mansion of such grandiosity for himself. Arthur, who was appointed as the Mahamudali of Kalutara, promptly built his mansion much to the amazement of the once sceptical Maharaja.
The majestic mansion has 99 doors and 34 windows. The wood for the frames of these was imported all the way from Burma. The house included 14 rooms, a dance floor as well as a dining hall.
