Located along Sri Lanka’s west coast and close to the international airport, the town of Negombo has become one of the island’s most popular destinations. Apart from a heavenly stretch of shore, there are other attractions here too well worth visiting.
Negombo Beach
One of the town’s main allures, Negombo Beach is a perfect place to begin and end your day. Watch fishermen return in the morning, soak up the sun on golden sands during the day and witness inspiring sunsets in the evening, before heading back to the comforts of your luxury resort in Sri Lanka.

Fish Market
Fishing still forms a large part of the local livelihood, and the local Fish Market is a great place to experience fascinating sights (and smells!). Around a 10 minute drive from Arie Lagoon, this market is best visited early morning when the fishermen bring their catch and take it for auction.

Dutch Canal
Built by the Dutch, this canal was originally used to transport goods to various parts of the island. Today, one can embark on a boat ride along the Dutch Canal or cycle beside it, taking in local life and the charming surroundings.
St. Mary’s Church
Another colonial reminder, St. Mary’s Church dates back to the late 19th century during the time of the Portuguese. Featuring neoclassicism style architecture, this Roman Catholic church has some truly magnificent paintings that can be seen on the ceiling, well worth taking in.
