A bit of history
The name Pattaya came to be from the march of Phraya Tak and his army from Ayutthaya to Chanthaburi. Phraya Tak confronted the ruler of Pattaya at the time, Nai Klom. The ruler seeing the discipline of Phraya’s army and his well-mannered ways surrendered the throne to him and joined his army. The place at which this incident and the meeting of the two occurred is known as ‘Thap Phraya ‘.
