Nuwara Eliya, also known as ‘Little England’, is a picturesque town in the central province of Sri Lanka. Owing to its cool climate, Nuwara Eliya contains some of the most breathtaking parks in the country.
Victoria Park
One of the best places to see in Nuwara Eliya would easily be the eye-catching Victoria Park. With flowers as far as the eyes can see, a pond, and a children’s play area, this park has much to offer. One can easily spend their days beneath a tree, reading a book, or simply relaxing.
Hakgala Botanical Garden
Situated 16 kilometers from Nuwara Eliya city, the Hakgala Botanical Garden is the second-largest botanical garden in Sri Lanka. If you’re staying at a property such as the Araliya Green City, the garden would be a sixteen-minute car drive. This would be a haven for nature lovers due to the number of species of orchids and roses the garden contains.
Horton’s Plain National Park
Situated at an elevation of approximately 6,900 to 7,500 ft, this national park is renowned for its rich biodiversity. While a number of mammals and birds can be seen at this park, the most commonly spotted are the Sambar deers.
Lake Gregory Park
This reservoir located in the heart of Nuwara Eliya is a popular attraction among both the locals and tourists. While there are water sports available for the more adventurous, many individuals prefer to enjoy walks around the lake or even pony rides. As there are several food stalls situated around the lake, it is even possible to have an impromptu picnic.
