Join us as we explore some of Tokyo’s most iconic and photogenic locations.
Asakusa
Steeped in history, brimming with picturesque charm, and adorned with remnants of the Edo period, Asakusa stands out as my preferred district in Tokyo. Its streets retain echoes of the 1600s, characterized by tranquil alleys and traditional low-rise structures. Wandering through Asakusa, you’ll encounter covered thoroughfares like Shin-Nakamise, where the facades of shops provide captivating subjects for photographs. Amidst modern buildings, you’ll stumble upon quaint restaurants and tea houses, each nestled within traditional gardens.
Senso-Ji Temple
While access to the main hall is limited to daylight hours, the expansive grounds offer ample opportunities for capturing compelling compositions featuring the pagoda and temple structures. Witness the majestic sunrise casting its glow over the Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate) at the conclusion of Nakamise Street, or capture mesmerizing sun stars from the main hall’s balcony during the morning hours. As dusk settles in, experiment with long exposures to capture the dynamic movement of crowds against the backdrop of the temple’s striking red hues during the blue hour. This place is but a short distance away from accommodation like the Oakwood Premier Tokyo, a great choice for any traveller.
Harajuku
Harajuku emerges as a whimsical realm akin to a journey through Willy Wonka’s imagination. It’s a haven of eccentricity, cultural richness, and sheer fabulousness. Venturing directly onto Takeshita Street unveils a kaleidoscope of avant-garde fashions, eclectic flavours, and emerging trends crammed into a narrow alleyway that itself serves as a captivating scene waiting to be captured. Yet, Harajuku transcends mere flamboyance; tucked away in its labyrinthine backstreets lie tranquil residential enclaves. Here, you’ll stumble upon charming pockets adorned with verdant parks, inviting playgrounds, and chic boutique stores.
Meiji-Jingu Shrine

A visit to Meiji Shrine is an essential part of any Tokyo itinerary. This revered site often serves as the backdrop for traditional Japanese weddings and ceremonies, offering a splendid opportunity to capture portraits and vignettes that epitomize Japanese customs and attire. As you approach Meiji Shrine, you’ll be greeted by a grand avenue flanked by towering trees and crowned by an imposing torii gate, creating a picturesque setting for photography. Consider visiting even if you’re staying in Tokyo furnished apartments for the short term.
