Situated on the banks of the Brisbane River, the old power station is now a major tourist attraction and local landmark.
History
Designed by an architect who worked for the Brisbane City Council, the powerhouse served its best during the post-war era, when the tram networks in the area needed the electricity for it to run smoothly. When the buses began replacing the trams, the powerhouse was shut down in 1971 as it was of no use anymore.
About
The Brisbane Power House was redesigned and reopened in the year 2000. In 2007, the building went under yet another remodelling, which paved the way for it to become the attraction it is now.
Going Inside
The powerhouse is now home to two restaurants, a bar, an apron stage theatre, a viewer open platform, conference room, and a few office spaces. If a River View hotel in Brisbane is booked for the day, you can always try the powerhouse.
Location
Hotels like Oaks Felix are about 20 minutes away if you travel by car. Head over to New Farm in Queensland and any native can direct you to the hauntingly beautiful powerhouse.
