During your sightseeing rounds in Suzhou, make sure you visit the Tiger Hill Pagoda, a stunning architectural monument dating back to the tenth century AD, and it is billed as the “Leaning Tower of China”. Famed for its spectacular landscaped gardens, the city of Suzhou forms a delightful base from which to launch your explorations, and quality Suzhou accommodation is easy to find in this iconic city. Consider the Citadines Xinghai Suzhou as its central location and idyllic surrounds make its selection of luxury Suzhou apartments a true treat for the senses. Formerly the pagoda of the Yunyan Temple, it was completed in 961 and rises to a majestic height of 47 metres. It boasts seven stories and features an octagonal deisgn, making it an imposing feat of architecture to photograph from up close. The crawl of a thousand years has resulted in the pagoda assuming a slight slant by about three degrees, due to a dual foundation of rock and soil. Since 1957, efforts have been made to stabilize the pagoda in order to prevent more leaning. During one such effort, construction workers discovered a stone casket containing Buddhist scriptures and an official completion date of the pagoda in 961. Although the top of the tower is no longer open to the public, it presents a formidable monument in photographs taken of the area.
