Are you planning a holiday to Thailand and are looking for a few nice places to add to your list of things to see and do? If you’re staying at one of the many hotels in Krabi, do check whether they offer activities around the other islands such as that offered at Anantara Si Kao Resort, to visit the Emerald Cave that’s located in the province of Trang, in Southern Thailand.
The Emerald Cave can be found on the west coast of Muk Island and is a long narrow tunnel which measures about 80m. For the adventure seekers, the entrance of this cave can be accessed by swimming or by rowing a small boat. However do keep in mind that this can only be done at low tide. Once you make it through the entrance of this cave, you will be met by emerald blue waters that are so blindly beautiful and white beach sand that’s soft and pristine. Towering limestone cliffs are located around the cave, and the shallow pool that forms inside is ideal for swimming. It is known that the most perfect time to visit the cave and get a glimpse of the wondrous natural phenomenon where the light of the water reflects on the caves walls, turning it emerald, is best seen between 10 am and 2 pm, when the sun shines directly on the water.
There are numerous ways to get to Ko Muk, and a boat leaves Kuan Tung Ku Pier everyday at 8 am and costs around 40 baht per person. The trip to the island of Ko Muk is usually 40 minutes long.
The waters of Koh Muk are also ideal for snorkelling. However non swimmers need not worry, as all passengers are given a life vest to don, to ensure the safety of everyone. Simply paddle your way through the wave if you’re not good at swimming!
