One of the most magnificent monasteries in Bodh Gaya, the Royal Bhutan Monastery is a site to visit during a trip to the pilgrimage town where Buddha is said to have attained Nirvana.
Bodh Gaya
Located in the Gaya district of the Bihar state, Bodh Gaya is known for being the location where Buddha is supposed to have attained Nirvana. After he left his family at the age 29, Prince Gautama travelled to and mediated a lot in his search for enlightenment. The tree under which he mediated was named the Bodhi tree afterwards. The city is one of the primary locations for devotees to make a pilgrimage to.
City of Temples
Bodh Gaya is a city of many temples. All the Buddhist-majority countries in the world have pledged a temple to the location in the hopes of blessings. The main temple is the Mahabodhi temple which is what most Bodhgaya hotels recommend as it is situated on the very location that Buddha acquired enlightenment.
The Royal Bhutan Monastery
The Royal Bhutan monastery was constructed by the Bhutanese king. It features elegant clay carvings depicting the life of Buddha and a delicate ornamental style of architecture. It is located near Birla road which is less than a 10-minute drive from Oaks Bodhgaya. The monastery has quarters for monks where they may carry out discourse regarding Buddha’s teachings. There are individual and group meditation classes, organised prayer sessions and meetings.
