A former residence of the Thai monarchy, make sure you check out the Royal Grand Palace of Bangkok during your trip. Here are some fun facts to know and helpful facts to help with planning your holiday!
Bangkok Hotels
There are always heaps of hotels to comb through in Bangkok! If you like views of the water, a riverside hotel in Bangkok such as the likes of AVANI+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel is a great choice for unspoilt views of the city!
A Unique Palace
The Royal Grand Palace unlike the name suggests is not just one giant palace. Rather, it is a collection of many structures and spaces within the royal walls. It includes the palace gardens and courtyards, the many halls, pavilions and temples along with the royal residence over a whopping 218,400 square metres.
A Royal Residence
It was initially constructed in 1782 by a royal decree of King Phutthayotfa Chulalok as he was intent on fortifying himself as the new leader of the Chakri Dynasty. Thereafter, this palace continued to serve as the official residence for the reigning family of Thailand for another 2 centuries or so.
Walking Around
While most of the outer court, the gardens and some of the buildings are open to the public, the Royal Palace has now become a wildly popular tourist destination in the heart of Bangkok! However, some sections remain out of bounds for the public as they are reserved exclusively for the king and his family.
