“Lantern chases the dusk, hot air balloon chases the dawn, but both touch the sky”, said Fathima Shamla. So, chase the dawn over acres of vineyards and lush green meadows with your other half by your side. Riding a hot air balloon is one of the most amazing experiences you can get in Hunter Valley; here are a few things you should know about beforehand.
Not a morning person?
This is a big concern among everyone. Unfortunately, if you’re not a big fan of waking up at the crack of dawn there aren’t any sunset balloon rides available. It’s not just limited to Hunter Valley, it’s illegal in Australia.
Getting there and what to expect
The whole expedition will take about 3.5hrs. The Peterson House Winery is only a 5min drive from luxury Hunter Valley hotels such as the likes of Oaks Cypress Lakes Resort. As the point of the ride is to catch the sunrise you have to wake up super early and get there at around 4.30. There will be a small briefing at the winery and you will get to choose your gourmet breakfast option. Next, you will be driven down to the launch site. The flight lasts for about 45 mins, swooping over the vineyards and lush countryside. Once you land, you’ll once again be driven to the winery for a delicious breakfast and wine.
It’s romantic up there
Your first thought will be that floating in a giant wicker basket as the first rays of sun hit you is one of the most intimate and romantic experiences you can have with a loved one. So, there’s a high chance of you wanting to propose up there or maybe have a balloon all to yourself. Good news; you can! You can contact the company and arrange your proposal or private balloon ride (at a higher price of course) and have beautiful memories that last a lifetime.
Overall experience
Almost everyone who went on a hot air balloon ride loved the experience. From start to finish, it’s a novel feeling; the excitement and rush as you start before the crack of dawn are exhilarating. The flight itself is magical. You get to see a stunning panoramic view of the vineyards and villages beneath you while you float in the air. The ride isn’t as smooth as an aeroplane and the landings can be rough sometimes but it’s all perfectly safe and sound. You even get to help fold the gigantic balloon up again and the whole experience is so worth it!
