The Ubud Monkey Forest is also more commonly referred to as the Sacred Monkey Forest and is known to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in Ubud.
Monkey business
This forest sanctuary is home to a giant group of over 100 long tailed macaques. There are major conservation efforts set in place to take care of these monkeys by observing their diet, health and breeding habits.
Location
If you’re staying in Ubud, hotel options are varied and some are in close proximity to the Monkey Forest such as Alila Ubud. Located in the Jalan Monkey Forest, Padangtegal, there’s also a holy shrine for visitors to explore through!
Inside
A majority of the relics and statues inside the temple are covered in moss and nature, making the temple more beautiful, especially as the roots of Banyan trees loom over the dragon staircases.
Things to remember
Do keep in mind that these monkeys are wild and your belongings should be kept close to you at all times. Monkeys have been known to grab and steal things like cameras, handbags etc. Avoid carrying any food to the temple as you’ll be tempting them! Entrance to the forest stands at IDR 40,000 for adults.
