The White Pagoda Temple consists of a total of 9 stupas. The primary stupa is located at the center and the remaining 8 smaller stupas are clustered at its base; giving the impression of a group of children huddled around their mother. Each stupa is significant in both beauty and religious value for within each stupa there is a Buddhist relief along with a niche featuring a Buddhist statue. In fact, one particular stupa has enshrined within it Lord Buddhas foot print itself thought to have been left by Sakyamuni when he visited this region.
2 giant dragons made of earth guard the entrance of each stupa on which pleasant bells are hung. As the breeze flows a characteristic chime can be heard.
The history of the White Pagoda Temple dates back to 1204. Although parts of the ancient structure remain intact, the temple has undergone 2 major renovations to date. Today records of the history, design and construction of the White Pagoda can be found in the famous Pattra Scripture.
