Sri Lanka’s South Coast may be known the world over for its picture-perfect palm fringed beaches and dazzling ocean waters, but this coastal region also has other natural wonders to discover.
Location
Thudugala Ella Waterfall is situated only twenty-four minutes away from the Kalutara town, one of the must-visit places in Sri Lanka for recreation entertainment.
Thudugala Ella
Other than spending lazy days on the beach, plan a trip to this waterfall which makes up for it relative lack of height by offering the perfect place to cool off from the tropical heat. Thudugala Ella can be found in the Thudugala village and those finding accommodation in Kalutara such as the property of Mermaid Hotel & Club can plan an outing here.
History
The falls can be found in an old estate once belonging to a British national. While a dilapidated country house can be seen on the property that was once used for the growing of rubber trees, the main draw is the waters of Thudugala Ella.
What to bring
Bring your camera along to capture this natural sight set amidst tropical lushness. This lovely green oasis is a great spot for bird watching and remember, keep your eyes peeled; in the foliage or in the branches you may catch sight of colourful indigenous and migratory bird species.
