The capital and largest city of the Southeast Asian state of Indonesia is the urban metropolis of Jakarta. Serving as the hub of Indonesia’s political and cultural activity, Jakarta boasts a vibrant culture and many unique attractions and landmarks. Thus, the city, which is also classified as an “alpha-global city”, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Indonesia, second only to the island province of Bali. A great alternative to Jakarta hotel accommodation are the luxury serviced apartments of the Somerset Berlian Jakarta.
Jakarta is known for being a top destination for shopping, given its many commercial districts. However, one of the trendiest shopping attractions, that has in fact gained a reputation of being a “hipster market”, is Pasar Santa. Often the starting place for many of Jakarta’s young entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas and products, the Pasar Santa is probably the best place to buy the newest and coolest items and products to hit the local markets.
Pasar Santa was initially a traditional market with many small stalls that were rented by local salesmen. However, in late 2014, the management of the market decided to start renting the cheap stalls to young entrepreneurs and businessmen who wanted a platform from which to showcase their start-ups. Within a short span the market was full of young entrepreneurs from all over Jakarta offering up their products. With most of these start-ups being “cool” and “trendy”, Pasar Santa soon became very popular amongst the hipsters and youth and is therefore one of the most fascinating markets in all of Jakarta. One can find a range of products on display at Pasar Santa, such as organic eateries, trendy cafes, antiques and vinyl records, vintage and chic clothing and accessories, and many other handy items. Shopping in Jakarta is in any event an exciting past time of many visitors of the city, but shopping at Pasar Santa takes the experience to a whole new level, given the hip culture and cool items on sale.
