Brisbane is one of the world’s most captivating metropolitan landscapes, and is the most populous city in the Australian state of Queensland. The Brisbane Riverwalk is one of her iconic landmarks.
Background
Correctly known as the Brisbane Riverwalk Floating Walkway, this structure provides a means for cyclists and pedestrians to travel over the Brisbane River at her most scenic location. You can find it between New Farm and Howard St Wharves.
The Old Riverwalk
This was a fascinating structure that was completely independent from riverbank where people can enjoy some serenity above one of the most beautiful points of the river. Unfortunately this incarnation suffered major damage during the 2011 Brisbane floods.
The New Riverwalk
After then destruction of the previous Riverwalk, a newer structure was planned with a lower cost of maintenance and the durability to withstand a ‘one-in-2000-year-flood’. The new structure is also situated at a much higher elevation of 3.4 metres above sea level.
Experience the Riverwalk
This breathtaking structure spans just under a kilometre in length and has two separate sections which are respectively dedicated to pedestrians and cyclists. If you’re residing at any of the Brisbane CBD hotels situated nearby such as Oaks Lexicon Apartments be sure to check out the iconic Riverwalk.
