Paying a visit to the Ruwanvelisaya Stupa or the Pagoda of Golden Dust is a must if you happen to be in the historical city of Anuradhapura.

History
The Ruwanvelisaya Dagoba was commissioned by King Dutugamunu nearly 2500 years. It was one of the largest Buddhist structures in ancient times, standing almost 103 m tall. The bubble shaped stupa is also said to enshrine Lord Buddha’s relics.
How to Get There

Best Time to Visit
The best time to pay a visit to the site is early in the morning or in the evening since it can get extremely hot during the afternoon. An ideal time would 5 or 6 pm when there is lovely cool breeze drifting in from the nearby lake and the sand is still warm from earlier on in the day.
Tips to Remember
Since this is a religious site do remember to dress in a modest manner covering your legs and shoulders. You will be required to go barefoot so remember to wear a pair of socks as the ground can get uncomfortably hot. Remember to arm yourself with lots of sunscreens and bottled water to avoid dehydration.
