Dubai is internationally recognised for its enormous, dazzling skyscrapers, opulent shopping arcades and a host of hotels and resorts, each one more extravagant than the other. The city continuously outdoes itself and the rest of the world with each new addition and the Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo is one of them. Located within the massive Dubai Mall, the world’s largest shopping mall, the colossal underwater zoo and aquarium covers over two floors and includes a 48 metre walkway through an aquarium tunnel on the ground level and several activities that let you get up close and personal with the marine life.
With all these exhibits and activities, it’s best to spend an entire day at the aquarium and underwater zoo and really immerse yourself in everything before finally heading back to your hotel. It’s not hard to find a good Luxury Hotel in Dubai, and the Dubai Shopping Mall is conveniently located near several hotels like the Desert Palm PER AQUUM for instance.
Home to the largest single acrylic panel in the world, surround yourself with the fantastic collection of over 40 exhibits of diverse marine life, glass-bottom boat rides, cage experiences and even shark dives that are accessible to both certified and non-certified divers. The aquarium holds a myriad of fish species, both and big small, that swim amidst the vast artificial coral.
Popular attractions at the aquarium are of course sharks and sting rays but other must see creatures include giant groupers and large schools of pelagic fish. Head one floor up and you’ll find the underwater zoo where the most popular attraction is the massive Australian saltwater crocodile.
Weighing a massive 750 kgs and measuring over 5m in length, the giant reptile is a big draw for the zoo which includes other unusual creatures such as the air-breathing African lungfish, giant spider crabs and other amusing animals. The underwater zoo is also a great educational tool as well thanks to the inclusion of 3 three ecological zones, the Rainforest, Rocky Shore and Living Ocean environments.
