Abud Dhabi is the capital of the United Arab Emirates and is one of the best destinations you can visit in the Middle East – and it’s due to amazing attractions like the Louvre Abu Dhabi. So, here’s a closer look at this spectacular museum.
The History
The Louvre is actually a relatively new addition to the city, being established in 2007. Jean Nouvel was the lead architect on this project as the museum was part of a 30-year development agreement between the governments of Abu Dhabi and France.
The Location
The Louvre is found at Saadiyat Island – it’s one of the city’s most famous cultural districts. If you’re staying at centrally-located 5-star hotels Abu Dhabi has to offer – for instance, the Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara –the museum is about 2 hours away and makes for a great day trip!
The Collection
The Louvre Abu Dhabi has one of the richest and extensive collections of art exhibits that you’ll find in the entire Middle East. In particular, you’ll find a lot of French works here – a nod to the partnership between the two countries.
The Exhibition
There are several major exhibitions held at the museum each year. These often showcase various periodical art that has been grouped together based on themes. If you’re lucky enough to visit the Louvre during an exhibition, be sure to check it out!
