Sri Lanka is indeed a country with an amusing history. There have been kings belonging to the Royal families, the colonial leaders from different countries, and then the local patriotic leaders. The National Museum of Sri Lanka is the perfect place to explore facts about each of them.
The history of the museum
This museum was established by Sir William Henry Gregory in 1877. He was the British Governor of Sri Lanka at that time.
The building
The museum is massive although it’s just a two-storied building. The building (which is painted full in white), as well as the garden, are well-maintained even today.
What to be explored?
There are several galleries here depicting stories of various eras of Sri Lanka. You find many sorts of ancient arts, statues, and carvings here, and even a lot of photographs. Swords, weapons, crowns, and thrones used by the Kings are on display at this museum.
Visiting the museum
Although the museum is in Colombo, heading to it from any of the Marawila hotels the likes of Amagi Beach will also be easy. (It won’t take even 1.5 hours to come here via the highway)
