An attraction that should not be missed by any traveller is WatArun. It is a temple with an 82 meter high tower in the style of Khmer that is decorated with broken fragments of porcelain. In the olden days during the Ratanakosin period, they used to cast aside porcelain which was used as their ballast. Temples utilised this broken multi-hued porcelain as ornamentation and turned the premises into masterpieces of art. The construction of the tower of WatArun began in the first half of the 19th century by Rama II and was completed by Rama III. The belly of the bòht is home to the main Buddha image which is said to be designed by King Rama II himself (1809-1824) and the murals which dates to 1868–1910.
