Treat your eyes to the most breathtaking view of the hill capital of Sri Lanka when you travel to Kandy and discover the Ambuluwawa Tower, a site that can be termed as one-of-a-kind eye candy!
The View
Located 25 kilometres away from Kandy city, Ambuluwawa Tower is a treasured attraction in Gampola city. 3,567 metres above sea level, the tower lets you witness the most serene and picturesque panoramas of Sri Lanka; the Knuckles Mountain Range from the North, Adam’s Peak from the South, Pidurutalagala Mountain from the East, and Bible Rock from the West. The view will certainly captivate your heart be it on a day with a clear sky or on misty mornings.
Cultural Importance
Ambuluwawa is a multi-religious site, the first of its kind in the nation. It is home to a temple, church, kovil and a mosque, all in one place catering to Buddhists, Christians, Hindus and Muslims. The beauty of this is you can visit the attraction setting aside any religious differences, a perfect example of unity among the island’s multi-religious groups. Check the Kandy Escapes blog to find more about such culturally rich places of interest in the hill country to add to your Sri Lankan itinerary!
The Climb
The tower is approximately 48 metres high, with a conical shape. The staircase spirals outside the tower getting smaller in radius as it reaches the top of the structure. The climb is certainly not for the faint-hearted and it’s recommended you not take the elderly or children to the top.
Attractions
Surrounded by diverse forests with unique flora and fauna, the site was named a biodiversity complex in 2006. You can see a herb garden, ponds and a Bodhi tree on the ground level, in addition to the religious shrines that all combine to create an enchanting setting for you to experience.
