The beautifully rich country of Thailand is blessed with plenty of wildlife, especially monkeys! Monkeys can be found almost anywhere; especially in remote temple areas that are surrounded by forests and jungles.
The type
There are a variety of monkey types that you’ll come across in Thailand; however the most common type is the long tailed macaque. These monkeys are generally gray or grayish brown in colour and grow to a height of 2 feet, and can weigh up to 15 pounds.
Cute but dangerous
Monkeys may look cute, however do keep in mind their cuteness is only skin deep. As these are wild animals, monkeys tend to get very aggressive and if you get too close to one; you will get bitten! Book an appointment at the closest hospital if you plan on ignoring this guide and/or the warning signs around densely monkey populated areas.
Don’t feed them
This is a caution you must be wary of when you’re in close proximity to any wild animal. Monkeys can be boisterous and will not hesitate to attack you if you have food. Avoid feeding them!
Don’t pet them
This goes without saying, you should never pet or attempt to touch a wild animal. No matter how cute they look, even the babies – don’t touch them! Monkeys get very protective, especially if you’re after one of the babies.
Take caution
As many hotels in the country such as Anantara Rasananda Koh Phangan Villas will organise jungle excursions, do take caution. A Koh Phangan guide like this will save you a trip to the hospital during your holiday.
