Located at 1634 Broadway in midtown Manhattan the Winter Garden Theatre was built in 1896 by William Kissam Vanderbilt. However it was William Albert Swasey who redesigned the building as a theatre. Its large stage is bigger than those in most Broadway houses. In the beginning a series of revues were frequently hosted by the theatre; these include The Greenwich Village Follies, Artists and Models and The Passing Show.
