Vimanmek Palace in Dusit Gardens Bangkok is the main building in a compound with several former royal abodes. It was constructed in the early 20th century in a remarkably short period as it only involved the re assembly of the dismantled royal residence at Ko Sichang in Chonburi. The relaxing modern spaces of Citadenes Sukhumvit 23 Bangkok are the ideal base for short or long trips to the city.
The building, which has a stucco ground floor and two stories of rare golden teak wood, has a central core with two wings. Eighty one apartments accommodated the queen and various members of the royal family and the royal household. Halls and antechambers were used for cabinet meetings and public functions. An octagonal structure with a domed roof, at the end of the west wing has a fourth floor that was the private quarters of the king. The palace served as an on and off royal residence and as a place of storage for the royal household until it was completely renovated in 1982 and turned into a museum to honour King Rama V. As such many of his personal effects, art, furniture, porcelain, glassware, old photos and memorabilia are displayed here. Each room of the palace is now furnished as it was in the time of Rama V down to the bathroom fixtures. The shower here is believed to be the first in the country. The building is an excellent example of the successful melding of Thai and European architecture. Vimanmek was Rama V’s favourite palace and he used it often to get away from the heat of Bangkok. The palace is still used for state functions and there is a daily program of Thai dancing. The palace is also accessible by boat and a wooden pier extends from the octagonal king’s quarters onto the river. The executive apartments Bangkok of Citadenes 23 offer fully equipped living and working spaces with a homelike environment to enable the enjoyment of the city attractions in comfort such as Vimanmek Palace that beautifully recreates the life of Thai royalty in the distant past.
